Severe weekend storm alert for South Bengal; Heavy rain and strong winds expected in Kolkata and coastal districts

South Bengal is expected to experience strong winds and heavy rainfall over the upcoming weekend. The Alipore Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain in most districts, including Kolkata. Despite the rainfall, temperatures are expected to remain steady, with continued heat and humidity across the region.

A low-pressure system is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday. This system is expected to cause heavy rainfall starting Wednesday, especially in coastal districts where rainfall intensity could be significant. From Wednesday to Friday, heavy rain is forecasted across most parts of South Bengal.

On Monday, thunderstorms accompanied by rain and strong winds are expected in North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia districts. On Tuesday, similar conditions are likely to continue in North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, and Jhargram. Heavy rainfall between 70 to 100 millimeters is anticipated on Wednesday in South 24 Parganas and East and West Medinipur.

Rainfall warnings have been issued for Thursday as well in the same districts. On Friday and Saturday, rainfall and wind speeds are expected to increase further across South Bengal, with wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Residents in the region are advised to prepare for these conditions.
